Deulmak (Perilla Seed Makguksu)

Review

There are so many types of makguksu out there, but the deulmak (perilla seed makguksu) here was a style I hadn't tried much before.
The buckwheat itself already has a nutty aroma, and on top of that it's loaded with ground perilla seed powder, so the nuttiness is maximized — combined with a subtle sweetness, it's a flavor even kids would enjoy.
It's mild and smooth rather than pungent, so I think people of all ages could enjoy it without any trouble.
The portion can feel a bit small, so I'd definitely recommend getting the large size.
For a side dish, it looked like most people were ordering the mandu (dumplings).
If you're expecting an icy, chilled makguksu, you might be a little disappointed, but if you already enjoy the perilla oil makguksu style, you'll definitely love this one.
There's usually a wait on weekends, but the restaurant has plenty of seating and it's the kind of meal people finish quickly, so you likely won't have to wait too long.
There is a dedicated parking lot, but it doesn't have many spots.
There's also a public parking lot nearby, but on weekends it's likely to be full.
Parking here always seems to be a bit of a struggle on weekends.
