The Story of Manager Kim, Who Owns a Home in Seoul and Works at a Conglomerate

Thinking I should watch a new drama for the first time in a while, I pulled up a series I had saved on my watchlist for a long time.
Since it's based on a webtoon, I went into it already knowing the rough storyline.

Although I haven't reached that age yet, having somehow reached my 14th year in corporate life made me relate to it deeply and immerse myself right away.
The fact that an actor I usually like starred in it also played a big part in keeping me hooked and thoroughly entertained.

In the drama, while he obviously worked hard in his corporate life to bear the weight of being the head of the household, what was depicted even more clearly was that he fought even more fiercely because of his own pride and inner trauma.

Of course, having that kind of drive is likely what allowed him to purchase a home and live well with his family until now.
However, if one views this solely as a self-sacrifice for the family, it felt like when that falls apart, it would lead to an overwhelming sense of personal despair.

Throughout the drama, I kept wondering if these are the shared anxieties and struggles of office workers living in Korea.
A sorrowful thought also crossed my mind that the ending for someone who dedicated their entire life to a company might, in the end, be all too similar.

In reality, even while knowing all of this, one probably has no choice but to live diligently day by day for the sake of immediate survival.
After all, it is an undeniable truth that only when the company does well is there even a slight chance that I might do well, which made me think this is why we continue to work so hard for the company today.

However, we should probably be wary of identifying ourselves too closely with the company, only to face an unbearable sense of emptiness after retirement or resignation.
