Please Find My Body

It is often said that the first sentence or first chapter is everything in a novel.
In that sense, I think this novel is successful at least in its opening part.

Just before disappearing, a bestselling mystery writer leaves a single sentence on his blog: Please find my body.
This single sentence, which is no different from a suicide note, becomes the bait that runs through the entire novel.

However, even after the writer disappears, posts keep appearing on the blog.
And they are posts that expose the secrets of surrounding people one by one.

Is this person alive or dead? Who on earth is writing these posts?
And what does that person's secret have to do with the disappearance?

While reading, these question marks kept piling up in my head, naturally leading me to flip to the next page.
For this introduction alone, I want to give this novel a high score.

However, the disappointments were also clear.
As it progressed to the second half, there were constant moments where I thought, Did the stage really need to be set to this extent?
Every event and character behavior fit perfectly within the writer's big picture without a single error, but that actually felt like a leap of logic.
There were too many coincidences that felt absolutely impossible to align so perfectly in reality.

The way the protagonist's emotions were narrated was also disappointing.

There were many sentences that simply explained rather than showed the character's psychology.
Narrations like I felt this way at this time were repeated, which broke the immersion bit by bit.

I suppose it was inevitable in trying to explain the complex plot typical of a mystery.
Still, I was left wishing that emotions could have been shown in a more sophisticated way.

Overall, it gave the impression of a typical mystery novel where characters move exactly as planned on a well-constructed stage, which is a characteristic of conventional mystery novels.
While it is certainly fun to read, it is a novel where the plot takes precedence over the characters.

I thought that this style might actually mask these shortcomings better if it were adapted into a screen version, and indeed, it is said to have been produced as a drama of the same name.
Since explanatory psychological depictions would be reduced and the tension could be filled with visuals and editing, it might be a story better suited for the screen.
